Protecting Constitutional Rights & Requirements

Public Citizen seeks to redress violations of federally protected rights by bringing cases based directly on the Constitution or by using civil rights statutes that provide a mechanism for litigating constitutional torts. Our cases in this area have involved the Due Process Clause, the Equal Protection Clause, and the bicameralism requirement. We have also challenged overbroad claims of sovereign immunity that would foreclose suits against the government. To read more about our cases in this area, click here.

In addition, we have a significant First Amendment practice, including cases involving free speech on the Internet.
