Worker Health and Safety

In the United States, thousands die each year from work-related illness and injury, and millions of workers suffer occupational injuries.

Government protection of workers is far from adequate. Actions by business-allied lawmakers and pressure from industry groups undermine efforts to improve health and safety protections.

Throughout our history, Public Citizen has been front-and-center in the struggle to improve working conditions in the U.S. We played a critical role in establishing a worker’s “right to know” about chemicals they use on the job. Our actions also have forced the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to limit workers’ exposure to many toxic chemicals.
